A new tiny seedling in a big forest
introducing 'something i have noticed - my new place on substack
Hello! I’m Hannah Nunn from Hebden Bridge in the UK, twenty years a maker of glowing parchment lamps, gentle patterned wallpapers, tiny paper cut treasures and more, all inspired by the exquisite details I find and appreciate while I’m out and about in nature with my camera and my wide open eyes.
But as well as making things, I love crafting words. They are usually about nature and my deepening connection to it. They are usually about small, often overlooked things that I have noticed and how they find their way into my work. They always have a thread of awe and wonder because there is always something to marvel at, even on the darkest of days.
For the last four years I have been sending out a weekly newsletter called The Three Somethings. Every Thursday I share, ‘something I have made’ and the story behind it, ‘something I am making’- a sneak peek at a work in progress and ‘something I have noticed,’ a nature encounter from that week. I call it ‘a gentle and joyful moment in your inbox’. I’m keeping this newsletter on Mailchimp for now because it is linked nicely with my online shop (you can sign up here if you like) but I thought Substack would be the perfect space for my blog posts and to use the community here to link up with other nature lovers.
My ‘in print’ publication
Each year in the spring I bring out Something I have noticed as a beautiful printed journal with around 100 pages full of my photography, illustrations and writings from that year. We are on issue number three now and they are being enjoyed by my readers around the world. The visual artist in me is motivated by all the colourful spines that will be lined up on the bookshelf together in years to come. You can order them, and see more photos on my website here.

I’m new to Substack and I feel like the teeniest of seedlings in a big forest, but I’m happy to have found a place on the internet which feels quiet and gentle and a nice place to plant precious words and pictures. Who knows how they may grow.
Welcome to Substack! I'm often noticing small details too, and it's lovely place here to connect with others for whom nature is so important.
So glad to see to see you on substack Hannah. I always enjoy reading your 'Something I Have Noticed' and I have your first journal.
